Story Time- The Colour Monster

Mrs Penny, Mrs Raikes and Miss Seberry are Reception teachers at Sandy Hill Academy. Mrs Raikes' reception class is known as 'Cherry' class and Mrs Penny's and Miss Seberry's is known as 'Apple'. All teachers work incredibly close to ensure consistency between the two classes. They are very much looking forward to meeting and welcoming all of the new children entering Sandy Hill in September. You will know who the class teacher during the individual parent meeting that you would of booked during the Welcome Meeting. A postcard containing all transition information will be sent out during the Summer too!
In September, our focus text is The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas, a beautifully illustrated story that helps children understand and talk about their emotions. Through this engaging and meaningful book, we will be exploring different feelings such as happiness, sadness, anger, fear, and calmness. The children will have opportunities to express their emotions in creative ways, helping them to develop emotional literacy, empathy, and self-awareness. Our aim is to create a safe and supportive environment where every child feels confident to share how they feel.

Starting school is a big step, and it’s completely natural for children to feel excited, nervous, curious, or even unsure. Every feeling has a place. This video helps children learn to recognise their emotions, understand them, and know that whatever they’re feeling is OK. By giving space to these emotions, we help children build confidence as they begin this new chapter.
