It's official, our girls football training with Miss Simpson and Mrs Williams is paying off! Girls football at Sandy is barely a year old so this success is a huge feat! On Friday 20th November, we entered the ESFA Girls County Football Competition at Penryn... and won!
In our group we faced a variety of Cornish Primary Schools. Somehow we lost the first game against Trewirgie of Redruth 0-1. Things picked up quickly and we qualified through the group stage without conceeding a goal. We beat St Breock, St Stephen Churchtown, Alverton to secure our place in the semi final. In the semi final we faced Wadebridge; we won the game 1-0. In the final against Archbishop Benson, our team hit the heights we knew they were capable of. We won 2-0 and it all fairness it could have been more.
This success means that we have qualified for the ESFA South west Regional Finals, which will be held in Bristol in April. Between now and then, we will be practising hard! Well done girls!

Our fantastic golfers are really developing their skills in putting, chipping and driving.
On October 16th we took part in the area competition at Newquay Golf Club and took part in a range of team games. The team finished joint second but finished third by virtue of a tie breaker, which involved putting to hit cones. The children demonstrated fantastic skill throughout, displayed all of our STARS, behaved beautifully and most of all, had a great time! More competitions will be available to the children this year and all our golfers will continue to learn from Mr Keast's expertise.
Well done to these talented golfers!
Our tri-golf club have been practising hard to achieve different awards. They have developed their putting, pitching and chipping skillset in a range of exciting competitions that Mr Keast has organised.
The order of awards:

The first Aspire Academy Surf Competition! How exciting! We had a fantastic time in the waves, narrowly missing out on the Semi Finals. Thank you to Mr Gentile of Truro Learning Academy for organising such a wonderful day!
Tag Rugby
Our fantastic tag rugby team took part in the Aspire Rugby Competition and showed real determination to overcome obstacles in their way. The team scored some fantastic trys and defended their try line fantastically by stealing the oppositions tags. In the group stage, we were challenged by our fellow academy schools. We beat St Stephen, Truro Learning Academy, drew with Treverbyn but were beaten by Penryn and Connor Downs. The two sides that beat us were terrific and ended up meeting in the final, before Connor Downs took the title. Well done to all that took part and a huge thank you to Mr Corbett at Biscovey who organised a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon!

Street Dance
Miss Dawes, our wonderful coach,  has been doing some brilliant street dance with us. Check her twitter page @danceactive1 and for more details about quality dance education.
The four Ds of Dodgeball: Dodge, Duck, Dip and Dive! (All skills that we have mastered at Dodgeball club.) We have lots of children who attend this club as it is active, fun and a great way of socialising as part of team. The aim of dodgeball is to hit the opposition with balls to get them out whilst dodging the other teams throws aswell.
Over the year there will be compeititons that we can enter as a school and that we can do in house colours.
There are a number of skills but this one below is the one that can help you set the world on fire as a dodgeball player.

The Butterfly and the Bee:

If you are holding two balls, try lobbing one in the air towards an opposing player to distract them, before hitting them with your other ball.

We attended the British Heart Foundation sponsorted competition at Penrice Academy and had a great time. We finished fourth at the competition and were a little unlucky not to win. We managed a draw against the eventual winners Lostwithiel. The children were fantastically behaved. Check out the ace photos and a video of one of our players launching an awesome strike below.

DODGEBALL MANIA- Inter-House Competition!

On Monday 22nd February, we had our second inter-house competition of the year. Due to the bad weather we were inside but that didn't stop the fast paced action.

The children dipped, dodged and dived expertly throughout the year groups. Children were constantly on the move and burned a lot of energy. They displayed great camaraderie throughout towards their teammates but also their opponent, learning that there is no shame in defeat (We can learn from defeats and come back stronger.)

In mid May- all 31 children in Year 5 and 6 that attended dodgeball club earlier in the year were selected to represent the school in the Inaugral Aspire Dodgeball Competition at Poltair. We competed against our other HUB schools Biscovey, St Stephen and Treverbyn. All children competed fabulously and showed great teamwork. The A and B teams both came 1st. The C team battled well but came 3rd.
Christmas Sports Festival
Just before Christmas, some of our lucky children got to attend a Christmas sports festival at St Austell Rugby Club. All children represented the school fabulously! Well done everyone who took part! Check out the photos below!
Well done to our basketballers who competed in the Cornwall School Games Qualifying at Poltair School. They showed fantastic determination throughout the competition in representing the school. Things started well, we won three and drew one. However, we lost our last two games which meant we finished fourth. Absolutely fantastic effort from our team and good luck to Charlestown and Pondhu at the Cornwall School Games.
At Zorbing Club, we have tremendous fun in this different and exciting sport!
