Spring Term 2019
The Spring term has started with Year 6 creating dramatic music using Garageband (an iPad app). This was linked to their new topic of Natural Disasters. The children learnt about dynamics, tempo and crescendos and the impact these would have on the music they composed. The children created a 3-note ostinato (musical repeating pattern) as the base for their music and then added instruments such as violins and drums to add the required effects.
The choir have started to rehearse for a forth coming multi-schools choir performance in Newquay in March. They have to learn 10 songs taken from famous stage shows.
The teachers were able to try out some of the Rocksteady instruments and learnt to play a Katy Perry song. There is some real musical talent amongst the staff. I can feel a BGT audition coming on!!
If your child is interested in learning an instrument with Rocksteady then please do contact the office.
Autumn Term 2018
There has been lots of music taking place this term at Sandy Hill.
In assembly we had a concert from the children who have been learning to play the guitar with Mr Johns.
Following on from some fantastic class workshops with Rocksteady music, many of our children have signed up for lessons with Scott from Rocksteady. In each session children get to sing or play a keyboard, guitar or drum machine and create their own band. So many elements of music are being taught in a fun and exciting way.
Year 1 have been learning how to follow rhythms and beats and then creating their own rhythms.
We ended the Autumn term with some wonderful musical Christmas celebrations. Year 6 were invited to perform some Christmas songs at the switching on of the Christmas lights in St Austell town centre.
KS2 also performed for their families in St John's Church, getting everyone in the spirit of Christmas.
