13.10.17 The crop is ready to harvest.

This week we have been very busy looking at the orange/ brown Autumn changes and getting ready for harvest. We have watched Charlie and Lola's journey through Summer to Autumn season changes and have explored all of our environment especially outside. The children were amazing pointing out all the changes and clearing up the leaves and newly fallen sweet chestnuts. The children didn't forget the birds and our squirrels so they placed the berries and chestnuts under the trees for collection ready for storage. We have listened to the story of Olivers Vegetables by Alison Bartlett and Vivian French and have explored the different vegetables within the book. The children decided they would like to make soup with their vegetables and they made enough to take some home to share. Look at our photos. We have explored lots of different vegetables and the children's favourite activity was testing which vegetables or fruit were easy to squeeze juice from. We really enjoyed the story of The Enormous Watermelon and have used watermelons within our learning environment.
