01.01.18 Happy New Year!
Well here we are, 2018, the start of a new year and a new term!
Firstly we hope that you had an amazing break and enjoyed lots of much needed family time and rest!
Secondly some notices and reminders:
- Please ensure that you fill out your child’s menu choices via parent pay prior to each new week.
- Spring homework, spellings and times tables will be given out next Monday 7th January ready for testing to begin next Friday 12th January.
- PE kits need to be in on Monday. Our PE day is Friday, but as the weather improves we might enjoy some impromptu outdoor PE as well.
Well the new year certainly started with a bang in our class as we began our fantastic new topic all about castles.
In English we read and shared the story of Saint George and the Dragon. We then had great fun retelling the story to our partners and acting out the exciting tale.
Finally we created our own comic strips based on the tale. We had great fun illustrating and then writing about his adventures.
In maths we recalled what we had learnt about shape and symmetry and we used this to create our own knights shield! We had great fun selecting and discussing the different 2d shapes before orientating them into position. To finish, we had to show that we could select the same shapes to create a symmetrical pattern on the other side of our shields. We produced some excellent designs that we are sure Saint George would be proud of!
In art we learnt all about primary colours and how these are mixed to make secondary colours. We also learnt about different mediums and we had a go at applying paint to our hands and creating a handprint. We then combined what we had learnt to select different colours and mediums such as paint and felt tips to create our own handprint castles. We also refreshed our cutting skills by adding detail to our castles through selecting different colour card and cutting it to make turrets, windows and doors to add to our castles. We were very proud of our final pieces of artwork which we will add to our castles display!
We hope you have a super weekend ready for a full week of learning and fun next week!
