Reception

On Wednesday the Easter Bunny came to visit Reception and Reception/Year one! After lunch we had to look all around our outside area and find chocolate Easter eggs whilst wearing our Easter hats. Once we had found a chocolate egg we then had to find some colourful paper eggs and draw them on a map. There were 30 eggs to find. This kept us very busy.

Today we are learning about India. We all came to school dressed in the colours of the Indian flag, orange, white and green. We went to a special assembly where we watched the children from Year 3 doing Bollywood dancing and learnt all about what it is like to live in India as a child. We coloured the Indian flag and made beautiful Indian elephants.

Happy Easter to you all. Have a lovely long weekend and enjoy the two weeks school holiday.

First day back at school after the Easter holiday is Monday 15th April.

If you have not returned your child's swimming letter already, please sign and return it on the first day of the next term.

After Easter we will be learning about our local community and people who help us. As part of this topic we will be visiting St Austell fire station and a police dog will be visiting the school.

If you have any library packs at home or any books or nursery rhymes from our library packs please return them as we will not be ablt to send home any more library packs until we have all the missing books returned.

As you know, we found four dinosaur eggs in our outside area last week and we brought them inside to hatch. We left them in a nest over the weekend making sure that they were warm and safe and when we came to school on Monday look at what we found...

The eggs had hatched! There was a baby Stegosaurus, a baby Tyrannosaurus Rex, a baby Triceratops and a baby Diplodocus. The next thing we had to do was to find their mummies and match them.

We knew that we had to be very careful with the babies as they need lots of looking after.

We also started to think about Easter this week. On Thursday we watched a video on the whiteboard all about how people around the world celebrate Easter. This gave us some ideas about the sort of activities we wanted to do.

We made Easter baskets to keep our eggs in.

We made chocolate Easter nests. Yummy!

We tried egg rolling with spoons which was tricky and fun.

Thank you to everyone who came to our open afternoon. The children really enjoyed sharing their Learning Journeys with you.

On Wednesday Mr Bower came to school to talk to us about staying safe on the internet. He taught us two very important roles.

1. To ask a grown up before using a computer/tablet/laptop/mobile phone.

2. Never speak to someone you do not know on the internet.

We learnt a little rhyme:

'Before you click, click, click

you have to think, think, think

and tell someone.'

Reminders:

On Thursday 28th March we are having an India day. Please can your children come to school dressed in orange, green and white (the colours of the Indian flag). This is the last day of term and we finish at 2pm that day.

Please can we have all swimming letters and medical forms in by the end of term.

On Monday we received a letter from Harry the main character from the 'Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs' stories by Ian Whybrow and Adrian Reynolds. Harry had woken up to find that his dinosaurs were missing and his bucket was empty. He wanted our help to find the dinosaurs and gave us some clues to follow. We searched our outside area and found them all hiding in different places. We put them into a bucket and brought them inside to look at.

Once the dinosaurs were inside, we used information books to find out about the different dinosaurs and what they like to eat. We knew that Tyrannosaurus Rex had sharp teeth because it eats meat and that Triceratops had three horns.

This lead to lots of dinosaur activities including digging for fossils, dinosaur puzzles, dinosaur sorting and dinosaur models. Very prehistoric!

On Thursday we received another letter from Harry telling us that there may be dinosaur eggs hidden in our outside area. We were so excited and we searched all the way around. Eventually we found them by the shed. We know that eggs are delicate so we did not touch them and Mrs Bawden brought them inside for us.

We then talked about what eggs need to help them hatch and we designed and made nests for them. We hope the eggs hatch soon. We will keep you posted.

Today we dressed in red for Comic Relief. It fitted in very well with our dinosaur topic that the red noses this year are dinosaurs! We had some Comic relief balloons and had lots of fun with them in the hall. We passed them over our heads and made them fly on the parachute.

Thank you for your Comic Relief support.

There is an open afternoon in Reception on Tuesday afternoon. The door will open at 2:30pm and you can come and look at your child's Learning Journey book.

What a busy week. St Piran's day and World Book day all in one week!

On Tuesday we celebrated World Book day by tasting Cornish pasties. saffron cake and scones. We learnt that the crimping on pasties was used by miners to hold the pasties when their hands were dirty. We also found out all about St Piran's journey to Cornwall from Ireland.

We all had our own views on the food. Some thought it was 'delicious' and 'scrummy' and others thought it was 'yuck'! The adults particularly enjoyed the saffron cake with a little bit of Cornish butter!

We then made Cornish flags. On one side we coloured the squares black and on the other we stuck down black paper being careful not to cover the white cross.

On Friday we had a 'mad' day celebrating World Book day. Everyone's outfits looked fantastic and the cakes were delicious so thank you for your hard work in providing these things for you children.

The children from Miss Bussandri's class came to visit us and read us a story they had written.

We really enjoyed their stories. Thank you for sharing.

Comic Relief is on Friday 15th March and red noses will be on sale at school next week. Each child can bring £1 to school and buy one red nose.

This week we had a shape, space and measures week. We have been learning about flat 2D shapes, solid 3D shapes, weight, length, capacity, money and time. All of our activities have been linked to these areas and we have been using some fantastic language. The children have been correctly naming common shapes like circles, triangles, rectangles and squares and have even been naming and describing triangular prisms (or toblerones as I like to think of them).

What a lot of shape activities. Ask your child about some of the shapes we have been discussing.

On Friday morning we decided to make the most of the dry weather and work on developing our physical abilities in our outside area. We climbed in, on, under, over and through our climbing equipment.

We hopped from spot to spot without touching the concrete and along the number track.

We used the hoola hoops and spun them around our waists.

After all of that exercise we all needed a big drink!

Reminders

Thank you for making sure that your children had their swimming kits at school for our first lesson last Wednesday. We will be swimming for the next four Wednesday mornings so please make sure kit is brought in every week. The children can wear tracksuits to school for the whole day and we recommend that they do as it makes changing them much quicker and simpler. Please can we ask that girls do not wear tights to school on swimming days. If you are available to help your child get changed this is much appreciated. Please wait in the changing rooms for us to arrive.
A swimming letter came home with your child on Friday for next term's course of swimming lessons. Please return the permission slip by 22nd March.

On Friday it is World Book Day meets Comic Relief and we are having a mad hatters day. Your child can come to school in a costume from Alice In Wonderland or in mad clothes with lots of colours. Please bring 50p and cakes or biscuits to donate to our mad hatters tea party.

On Tuesday it is St Piran's Day and we will be tasting pasties, scones and saffron cake. Please let Mrs Edyvean or myself know if your child has any allergies.
