Reception

There has been wedding fever in Reception this week
In preparation for the big day, we have been very busy making and doing.
On Monday we wrote invitations for the Year 1 children in Miss Webster's class. We used the phonemes we have been learning to help us to write the words 'wedding', 'school' and 'Friday'.

On Tuesday we worked with our R Time buddy to print repeating pattern wrapping paper. We had to make decisions together about the colour and shapes we were going to use and to take in turns with each other. Good teamwork!
alt
On Wednesday we made flowers for our button holes and bouquets. Don't they look beautiful!

alt
We also made stain glass windows with 2D shapes.

Today we made fairy cakes ready for tomorrow's wedding breakfast. We are getting excited now!

Mr Bradburn is going to be filming the wedding tomorrow so we will put the video on the blog.

We have been very busy during DT week, designing, making and evaluating fruit ice lollies and Christmas decorations.
On Monday and Tuesday we tasted fruit and juices, decided which fruits we liked the best and chose those to go into our fruit lollies. We then had to draw a picture of how our lollies would look. We made each layer of our lollies separately, putting them in the school freezer each time. We were very excited to see the changes that had happened each time they came out of the freezer. On Wednesday we got to take out lollies home and eat them. It was interesting to hear what we all thought of our lollies.

We also made clay fruit. Don't they look fantastic!

We used the whiteboard to sort fruit and healthy and unhealthy foods.

On Wednesday Year 2 came to visit us and brought the Christmas decorations they had made. They had written instructions to read to us so that when we made our decorations we would know what to do.
alt

We then used the ideas that Year 2 gave us to design and make our decorations. We had to be very careful when sewing the circles together and very creative when sticking on our designs. They look beautiful!

We hope you are all having a lovely half term break. The children have worked so hard and have settled beautifully into school life. It is sometimes difficult to remember that they have only been in Reception for 8 weeks as they have embraced school life so well.

See you all on Monday 5th November when we return to school with a bang (just a little bonfire night joke) with our wedding week. I hope you are all managing to find outfits for the big event on Friday 9th November.

There is also a letter in your child's bookbag about the nativity with details of their role and they outfit they need. It seems like Christmas is a while away but it will be here before we know it!

There is also a food competition sheet to complete. Please hand those in next week when we come back to school. I look forward to seeing the children's ideas.

We have been learning about shapes in Reception this week.

On Monday we had a feely bag of 2D and 3D shapes and we had to guess which shapes were in there. Mrs Bawden described them to us and we had to say the name.

Can you guess this shape?

I have four sides that are all the same length and four corners.
I am a ......

I have six square faces.
I am a .......

During listen look and learn time we sorted the shapes into 2D and 3D shapes. We also made pictures using the tap a shape.

alt

alt

In R Time we worked with our buddies to make shape pictures. We had to discuss what shapes we were going to use, what picture we wanted to make and where the shapes would go.

alt

alt

The pictures we made included houses, people, parks, and even the theatre we are visiting after Christmas!

Next week is DT week. We will be making fruit ice lollies and we will be sewing somehting special.

The week after half term is wedding week. Everyone should have had a letter in their book bag informing them of the role they will be playing. Please let me know if there are any issues with outfits.
This week we were visited by a pirate! He came into the classroom while we were out playing so we did not get to meet him but he left behind a letter and a treasure map. We followed the treasure map all around the playground and the football pitch and we finally found a chest full of pirate treasure in the outside classroom. We were so excited!

alt

alt

We then took the treasure chest inside and had a look at what was inside. We found jewellery, eye patches, a flag, and some gold coins! We could not believe our eyes!

alt

We have spent all week being pirates. We dressed up as pirates, made pirate ships, created pirate masks, drew treasure maps and recorded ourselves talking like pirates. In R Time we even made pirate ships with our buddies.

alt

What a fantastic model!

In the week after half term we will be doing a class wedding. A letter will be coming home next week in your child's bookbag letting you know their role and the clothes they will need.
