Nursery

An exciting time was had this week in the nursery as we investigated dinosaurs!
Beth had worked wonders over the half term to make a dinosaur cave and role play area.

The children have been learning the different names of the dinosaurs, learning if they are meat eaters (carnivore) or plant eaters (herbivore). We have thought of different ways and words to describe the dinosaurs.

We then painted our own dinosaurs for our display.

I think you will agree they are excellent.

We also got creative in the outside area and made a skeleton with resources that we found.

In the nursery this week we have enjoyed finding out how the Chinese New Year animals were decided.
We listened to the story of the animals racing across the river.
We then ordered the animals in the correct sequence of winners.alt

We have practiced our mark making and pencil grip in small groups activities by writing chinese symbols.

We listened to the Chinese music and danced along the snake!

We worked together to make a cave for our class dragon.

This week we have been learning about the Chinese New Year which is on February the 10th.
We have been learning about the special celebrations and compared them to similar celebrations that we have in our country.

This year is the year of the snake and we decorated our own snakes, some of the children even made repeating patterns along the snake.

We took part in our very own dragon dancing.

We tried on some traditional Chinese clothes and we have enjoyed wearing these in our chinese restaurant role play area.

We enjoyed trying to pick the play dough up using the chop sticks.

The nursery children have been practicing writing their names this week, focusing on how to hold the pen  correctly and the letter formation.  When your child can demonstrate they can write their name independently they will receive a certificate in recognition of this fantastic achievement.
alt

On Monday morning or afternoon nursery session you will find your childs laminated name for you to practice with your child.  We hope this to be a fun activity that you can do with your child as they enter the nursery for each session that they attend.

We have been busy practicing our mark making in various different ways, we decorated our own mittens.
alt alt

We have painted winter trees with cotton buds which we think look very effective.

alt

We also practiced our mark making on the large paper resource area.

Thank you for all the amazing "wow" stickers that we have received this week :).

We have been focusing on the winter weather over the last few weeks.  This week we fed the birds and did a spot of bird watching.  We had to wait quietly to see if they arrived. The children scooped the bird food for their mathematical development  work.

  alt

We also looked at our favouirte winter meals, we looked at the different features of a recipie book.

The children enjoyed looking at the different winter vegetables, we learnt their names and also looked at their different shapes.
Later in the week we enjoyed vegetable soup for our snack.

We also used the winter vegetables to print with in the creative area.
