Nursery

Welcome back everyone.   Over the last two weeks the children in the nursery have been looking for signs of Winter.  We have looked at clothes we need to wear in the winter and have been practicing putting them on to go in our igloo.

We have been leaning about the Arctic and the animals and people who live there and have compared them to our own clothes and homes.

At the numeracy area we have also been ordering numbers on the snowmen independently to 10.

We went on a winter walk around the school gardens to look for signs of winter.  We found lots of puddles but we didn't find any frost or snow!

In the water tray we have had some ice shapes, the children have enjoyed looking at the ice and describing what it feels like.  We had some great suggesting what would happen to it during the day.

In the small world area, we enjoyed having fun and interacting with our friends at the small world tray with the 'ice blocks' (sugar cubes) and 'snow' (salt).  This area has generated lots of excited conversations.

During our phonic sessions we have been focusing on sounding out CVC words as c-a-t, h-a-t, m-a-t, d-o-g. The children enjoyed feeding the robot 'Metal Mike' with the correct picture card that he sounded out with his robot talk.

The children have been practicing writing their names.

The children (and staff) have been very excited with it being the end of term and Christmas just around the corner.........

We had a super Christmas party and the children enjoyed the party games and the party food was quickly eaten, thank you for all the food donations.

Preparing for Christmas

The children have been posting their Christmas cards that they have written at home to their friends.

alt

alt

We have been making our own Christmas cards for our families,  we had to count out 5 feathers for our turkeys.
alt

We had to follow the instructions to make reindeer food.  We practiced scooping the mixture into the special bag developing our physical skills.
alt

We then had to add the instructions onto the bag by twisting the pipe cleaner very tightly onto the top of the bag.

alt

We were very excited after we had finished making the reindeer food.
alt

Outside the children worked together to make a train, which they then turned into a boat.
This generated lots of discussion and decision making developing our speaking and listening skills.

alt

We have put our Christmas tree up in the nursery today (Friday), however it is looking very sad.  We are asking all the children to bring in a (named) decoration to hang on our tree.  Please make sure it is not delicate or breakable.

alt

We enjoyed following the dots on the owls at the marking area.
alt

alt

We have lots of new displays in the nursery that we have all been contributing towards.
Having read the story "Owl Babies" and looking at non-ficton books about owls we painted our own owls independently.

alt

We investigated finger painting.  We looked at different feathers through the magnifying glasses and added them to our owls.  We hope to make these into calandars.

alt

We have been counting together using our number line, can you count from 0 to 20?

alt

We have been creative with the resources in the nursery creative area.  Can you see what it is?

alt

We combined the the coffee smelling play-doh with some feathers and wobbly eyes from the creative area to make owls.

alt

In the nursery we celebrated St Andrew's today, we had various activites around the room.  We had to follow the instructions numbers 1, 2, 3 to make our own Lock Ness Monster.  We also tried to write our own names.
