Nursery

This week we have been focusing on ladybirds.  We read the story of the 'Bad Tempered Ladybird' by Eric Carle.  We looked at clocks at the beginning of the week focusing on o'clock.

We discussed how to be good friends and share just like the ladybird in our story.

We went on a mini beast hunt in the reception garden, we had great fun and found lots of interesting mini beast and insects.

We practised our number skills playing ladybird bingo.

We drew observational pastel drawings of ladybirds, we drew on the spots.  We then wrote the correct numeral to match the spots,.

This week we have used The Mixed-Up Chameleon by Eric Carle as the basis for all of our work.

We have sequenced the story, looking at ordinal numbers.

The children thought about their own qualities and decided why it was good to be themselves.

We thought about which animal we would like to be like and the qualities of that animal (see our new display in the nursery).

We made our own chameleons by tearing the tissue paper and layering it (see our new display).

We also used the laminated chameleon to investigate how to camouflage into the local environment.

We made junk model animals.

This week we had an exciting visit from Philp 'The Music Man'  we listened to the different sounds of the musical instruments and learnt their different names.  We had a go at being the conductor which involved us having to concentrate, look and listen!

We have enjoyed playing with the Gruffalo story sack, retelling the sory using the characters and the book.

We got messy at the creative table!

We got busy in the garden in the nursery garden!

The nursery children have been very busy this week.

We have enjoyed developing our numeracy skills especially playing with different number puzzles around the nursery.

We have been counting different sounds and objects and finding the representing numeral on our number fans.  We enjoyed playing number bingo with our friends.

We have been developing our listening skills and we went on a listening walk around the school.

We looked at different stories and discussed the beginning, middle and ending of them.  We particularly enjoyed the story of Duck in a Truck,  we listened for rhyming words within the story.

We also painted 2d shapes using different transport models making tracks onto the paper.

This week we have been learning about symmetry using the interactive whiteboard.

We made our own symmetrical eggs in a small group activity.

We have also been independent in the snack area, spreading our own butter onto the crackerbreads.
