Class R-1

What a lovely day we had yesterday at Newquay Zoo! Here are some photo's of our day..

We saw so many interesting animals from splashing penguins to bright blue frogs! It was great finding out where all the different animals came from and the habitats in which they live. We are going to be focusing our literacy this week on our trip and the animals we saw!

This week we have been very busy in class r/1. We have been discussing characters from fairy tales in Literacy. The children have been thinking of appropriate adjectives to describe their appearance and their personalities. Using these descriptions the children created detailed character profiles and wanted posters.

In numeracy we started the week focusing on partitioning. We soon moved on to finding ten more & less than a number, initially using a number square to recognise the number patterns when adding and subtracting ten (the ones number always remains the same but the tens number changes by one). We are now going to move on to adding and subtracting multiples of ten!

Reception have enjoyed the Police visit this week and loved going to visit the Fire Station!

It has been a lovely week to return back to school. The children have been so welcoming and it has been great getting to know them. This week we have had lots of fun together! I thinkthe children particularly enjoyed the easter hunt! Here are a few photos of us searching for eggs!!

The children looked super dressed in their orange, white and green for India day! Today we have been making flags and masks. We had an assembly to watch the year 3 children doing their Bollywood dancing and found out about life in India from Miss Binghams experience earlier in the year.

I know the children will miss Miss Webster and we wish her well for the future!

Designers in the making!!!

We finally made our Rolly toys this week after lots of planning, designing and adapting.

The children were proud of their designs & had lots of fun testing them on the hill at school.

We found out lots including:

Why do some toys roll wonky?

Do short or long axels roll faster?

How can we gie our toy a handle & still let it roll?

Polite reminders:

Swimming starts again after Easter-please have your forms in by Friday 22nd March.

Last but not least

I would like to say a massive thankyou to all the staff at Sandyhill for supporting me in my time here. It has been brilliant.

Another massive thankyou to all the brilliant parents and a special mention to all of those who give up so much time to help us-It is very much appreciated!

And finally a super massive thankyou to all the brilliant children of Year 1R. You are all super stars, I have loved being in your class and am sure you will all achieve great things!!!

Have a brilliant Easter.

Miss Webster :-)

World Book Day was amazing!!! Everyone looked fantastic and there were so many yummy cakes!!!!

We had lots of creative discussion about characters and favourite stories as well as lots of fun at the Mad Hatters Tea Party!!!

Thankyou all for making it such a fantastic day!

Getting ready for the party!!

Delicious cakes!

The whole gang!

Apologies for this blog being late-I had some technical issues!

We have also been learning about floating and sinking. The children became investigators and had to find out if their predictions were correct! We used lots of adventurous vocabulary such as heavier/lighter, denser, air pockets, materials, surface area.

See if you can guess what will sink/float around your house!

(Check with Mum and Dad first).

Polite reminder:

Swimming forms come back before Easter please.

We are still collecting cardboard tubes.

Thankyou!
