Year 5

We began the week continuing to discover what it would have been like as a Victorian child. Year 5 had to compare the life of a Victorian child to a child of today.  They discovered that in Victorian time's the children had to go to work unless  they were from rich families who were able to attend school, today's generation have to go to school until they reach the age of 16.
They also analysed features of a diary entry, was it written in first person? Is it mainly in the past tense? Is the writing going to be informal or chatty? These were some of the features the children had to think about to put in their diary entry ready for next week.
Here are some of the descriptive words year 5 have discovered:

In maths this week we have been looking at doubling and halving.

In science the children have been discovering which foods are healthy and which are not. They had to produce a poster to highlight which we should be eating more of.

During P.E this week the children have been continuing to recap on the skills needed for netball. They also had the opportunity to shoot at the hoop, they seemed to really enjoy this.
Here are some pictures of year 5 in action:

They also continued to join in with zumba, they all showed such great enthusiasm and are really picking up the routines quickly. Here are some pictures of them taking part:

Don't forget next Friday it is Languages day and in year 5 we will be Greece. We are dressing up in the colours of the flag; blue and white.

We hope you have a lovely weekend from year 5 smiley
Welcome back, we hope you had a lovely summer holidays. The children in year 5 have really settled really well into their new routine over the past couple of weeks.
So far this week the children have been exploring what life was like as a Victorian child. On Thursday they put themselves in role as a Victorian child and had to tell the rest of the class how they were feeling, what job they did and how old they were. From this they then wrote a statement in character.
Here are some examples of their work:

I hate being a chimney sweeper. I feel nervous, my eyes sting like a bees sting, my tummy presses on me like a up crumpled piece of paper. I would like a clean bath!

I hate it, I just hate it. Soot is all over my face, burns all over my body. I feel like I need to die!

In P.E the children took part in invasion games, focusing on netball. They also had zumba on Tuesday which they were all brilliant at, they seemed to really enjoy the afternoon, each child was rewarded with a merit for the effort they put in.

This week year 5 have been working hard to become more independent in their own learning and lots of children have already been on our tree for resilient learners.

Here is some important information about year 5 if you were unable to attend the welcome meeting.

Homework is given out on a Monday which needs to be returned the following Monday.
Homework club runs on a Wednesday.
Spellings will take place on Mondays.
P.E will take place on Tuesday and Friday.

Hope you have a lovely weekend.
