Year 2

During DT week Year 2 have completed two projects. The first project was to design and make a Christmas tree decoration. These varied from robins to baubles to snowflakes. Each looked very different but equally fantastic!

We began this project by exploring the materials available which enabled us to create some super designs. Then we started sewing around the outside using overstitch before stuffing our Christmas decoration. Next we sewed on some colourful buttons. Some of us decided to put two or three buttons on top of each other which was a bit tricky.

Finally we decorated our Christmas decorations with sequins and glitter. Don’t they look super?

Our next project was to design and make a fresh fruit salad. We started this project off by tasting several different fruits to see which ones we liked and disliked. Then we chose 4 of these to use in our fruit salads. We thought carefully about taste, colour and textures. They  looked fantastic and tasted yummy!

Afterwards we evaluated them to see how we could improve them if we were to make them again.

During art we made observational drawings of fruit using pastels. First we looked closely at a whole banana or an orange, apple or pear that had been sliced in half. Then we drew the outline and shaded the different colours and textures using pastels.

Keeping on our DT theme we wrote some instructions during literacy in order to tell somebody else how to make our fruit salad.

Similarly, during Numeracy we collected data of the favourite fruits of the children in our Year 2 class. Then we used this information to create our own pictogram. We discovered that the most popular fruit in our class is the crunchy, juicy apple!

It has been lovely to be back with Year 2 and what a busy week we have had as usual.

We have enjoyed starting to get to grips with our DT projects seeing as it's DT week next week.
Our first project is Christmas tree decorations and our second project will be making our own fruit salad. So therefore if your child still needs to return their food allergy slip please can it be returned on Monday. Also please feel free to come into the classroom to see your child's Christmas decoration. They are looking fantastic!!!

Thank you to all of our parents for your support and understanding over the last few weeks. If you feel you need to speak to me with regards to your child please feel free to come into see me.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend :-)

Year 2 have been working ever so hard again this week.

We would like to thank you once again for your support in the reading groups during the mornings, we really do appreciate it.

During Maths we have been looking into money and making different amounts using the correct coins. This week we will be looking into 2d shapes.

Year 2 wrote fantastic big writes about our languages day!! we would like to thank you if you talked to your child about the languages day the night before the big write.

In Science we looked at mammals and what were the differences and similarities between different mammals.

During Geography we made our own route to school plans using keys. We all did a fantastic job!! here are some to show you:

We are hoping that the year 2's are settling in well.

Mrs Leedham is doing a fantastic job teaching us all in year 2 whilst Mrs Sandoe is off poorly, we hope Mrs Sandoe makes a speedy recovery.

During Art we have made some super weaving fish pictures for our hall display and our classroom. What do you think?

In Literacy we are looking at instructions, we are learning how instructions are set out and thinking about why we use instructions, as we are going to write our own instructions soon.

Geography- we have been learning about our local area, during our lesson we worked in groups and made a plan of our classroom using different construction pieces (connex, 2d shapes, blocks and poly dron) We worked really well in our groups. Here are some our designs:

We have learnt about our teeth during Science and talked about healthy foods and how they were important to look after our teeth. This week we started learning about medicines and how we needed to be safe taking them.

The reading groups in the mornings are going great! as every morning the children are getting listened to reading. We would like to thank the parent helpers who are coming in and helping out with the reading.

Dear Tabitha

Everyone had a fun maths lesson making your potion!

I hope we have completed the task correctly and we hope you have fun casting spells on people.

After a while, we found that the ingredients made a mud colour.
From this lesson we found out that 500ml is 1/2 a litre.

We wish we could make your potion again so please remember us next time!
