Year 2
During DT week Year 2 have completed two projects. The first project was to design and make a Christmas tree decoration. These varied from robins to baubles to snowflakes. Each looked very different but equally fantastic!
We began this project by exploring the materials available which enabled us to create some super designs. Then we started sewing around the outside using overstitch before stuffing our Christmas decoration. Next we sewed on some colourful buttons. Some of us decided to put two or three buttons on top of each other which was a bit tricky.
Finally we decorated our Christmas decorations with sequins and glitter. Don’t they look super?

Our next project was to design and make a fresh fruit salad. We started this project off by tasting several different fruits to see which ones we liked and disliked. Then we chose 4 of these to use in our fruit salads. We thought carefully about taste, colour and textures. They looked fantastic and tasted yummy!
Afterwards we evaluated them to see how we could improve them if we were to make them again.

During art we made observational drawings of fruit using pastels. First we looked closely at a whole banana or an orange, apple or pear that had been sliced in half. Then we drew the outline and shaded the different colours and textures using pastels.
Keeping on our DT theme we wrote some instructions during literacy in order to tell somebody else how to make our fruit salad.
Similarly, during Numeracy we collected data of the favourite fruits of the children in our Year 2 class. Then we used this information to create our own pictogram. We discovered that the most popular fruit in our class is the crunchy, juicy apple!
